CONJE15 Tennessee Flying Geese
c.1870
75 x 76 inches
Nashville, TN
$3,200
Shown here is a visual delight. Created c.1870 and using dozens of
different fabric..wools, wool challis....this quilt was artistically
made up of plaids, stripes and solids.
The top and bottom 8" borders use a deep burgundy or wine color earlier
woolen knit fabric. Each triangle measures 4 x 4 x 6 inches and is
outline embroidered with a turkey track stitch using a variegated wool
yarn. The outlining of each triangle creates a three-D effect. The apex
of each triangle in every other row is embellished with a yarn pompom. A
pillowcase edging is also embellished using the identical turkey track
stitch and the same variegated yarn. Royal Blue is the color of the
fabric used for this wholecloth backing.
There are a few old moth holes that can only be found with very close
inspection.
This visually folky and graphic quilt already has the "sleeves" sewn on
the back making the quilt ready to hang. If the sleeves are not wanted
they are easily removed.
