Every once in a while I find a quilt whose graphics are so spellbinding that I can't take my eyes off it. This is such a quilt. The feelings it evokes are both peaceful and dynamic. It is in impeccable, unused, unwashed, mint condition. Because of the composition it can be hung in any direction. Either way it will have a strong impact on all viewers. All work is pieced and quilted by hand. The 1/4 inch binding is also applied by hand.

Upon close examination at least two people pieced this. One part is done in the English piecing method, and the other part in the American method.

The outside border measures 9 inches, and 1/4 inch of that is a hand applied binding. The quilting in the outer gray/blue border is what is known in the southern and western parts of the country as Baptist quilting. It is executed using arcs that are approximately 3/8 inches apart. The other two borders are 3-3/4 inches wide with one row of Baptist shell quilting.

The next border is approximately 7-1/2 inches wide and comprised of two outer rows on each side that are approximately 5/8 inch wide. The diamonds on the diagonal are 1-1/2 inches wide. All pieces and outer strips are outline quilted. The blue blocks surrounding the stars are 10-1/2 x 10-1/2 inches and nicely quilted using a mirror image of the pieced star. This quilt would be an amazing art piece for your wall. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.
