Betsey is very pleased to offer an original Gees Bend quilt made by Malissa Pettway, in excellent condition. This wonderfully graphic textile was included in the book Gees Bend: The Women and Their Quilts. Malissa constructed her quilt in an overall bars and squares pattern, and hand pieced with a variety of colors in solids, ginghams and print cottons. She then hand quilted this piece in her lap, using black thread in a rounded chevron pattern of lines spaced about 1 inch apart. The wholecloth flannel backing is a small tessellating diamond medallion print in blue, lime green and red. The ½ inch binding has been turned over from the back to the front and whip stitched into place. Authentic quilts specific to the ladies of Gees Bend are rare to the market, so don’t miss out on this opportunity!
