F153 Silk Mosaic Fragment
c.1850
23 ½ x 27

$550
A fabulous variety of early silks, silk velvets, and silk ribbons have been hand pieced over paper templates into a floral mosaic pattern with black silk velvet joining hexagons. Betsey found this wonderful textile as an unfinished quilt top, and rescued two sections as quilt fragments. This fragment was finished with a separately applied ¼ inch same date black silk binding, and a same date moss green and rose floral backing. The single layer mosaic flowers have been constructed from dainty hexagons measuring approximately ½ inch per side in stripes, checks, floral embossed, solids, and print silks of every color. Ready for sleeves, this fragment is a terrific opportunity for early silk fabric aficionados! Please ask Betsey for more details.
