Q6106 Double Irish Chain Quilt

This, what appears to be an unused quilt, is simple in design, yet graphically wonderful. My "eye" sees quilts as art first..a bed cover second. This naturally was not the case when antique quilts were created. These wonderful pieces of art kept us warm in homes without today's central heat. While at the same time these quilts brought beauty to the surroundings of one's home.
The Double Irish Chain quilt is visually simple, yet the squares must be perfectly configured to result in a perfectly constructed quilt. The fabrics used here are a matter dyed rust/red and an over dyed green plus white. Where these fabrics required yardage and were unused we can realistically assume that the family was of comfortable means. These fabrics were probably purchased for this project and not leftover "scraps".
All piecing was executed by hand as was all the quilting. Each square is outlined quilted with a pie design in the white areas. The back was turned over to the front creating the binding and finished by hand.
I actually have another quilt that is so similar that these two would be a compatible pair.
Now organically hand washed and ready for your at home or in shop viewing.
