Q8280 Indigo and White Feathered Touching Stars Quilt

c.1855
71 x 85 (180.3 x 215.9 cm)
possibly New York
$2,300

This stunning pre Civil War indigo and white Feathered Touching Star has it all. Beautifully hand pieced and hand quilted it is comprised of a single deep indigo fabric with tiny white rings. The triangles in the “feathers” measure a mere 7/8 x 7/8 x 1 ¼ inches! The large stars measure 19 inches feathered tip to feathered tip with white joining block between.

Hand quilting includes large wreaths with cross hatch centers and a unique variation of parallel lines with partial cross hatch outside the wreaths. Stars have central wreaths surrounded by intersecting parallel lines with outline quilting in the small white triangles. The backing is the same white as used on the front with a separately applied 1/4” white binding.

A wonderful piece of textile art for collectors of Blue and White 19th century quilts! In excellent condition this quilt has been professionally hand washed by Betsey and is ready for your home. Originally purchased by a client in the mid west who was told it was from New York. Quilts are always sent on approval.
