Q8338 Turkey Red & Teal Blue Floral Applique
c.1845
82 x 90
Weston, NY
$2,900

A fabulous quilt by an extremely creative and talented needle artist, this piece was completed in the 1840’s, using solid Turkey red, a gorgeous solid teal blue, and white cottons. Each of the nine 21 x 26 inch rose sprig blocks has been appliqued and reverse appliqued using the tiniest of fine stitches almost invisible to the naked eye. Teal blue sashing 7/8 inch wide surrounds each block and also defines the beautiful three sided border. This 7 inch wide border contains unique urn and heart rose appliqués of the maker's design, all meticulously hand stitched and quilted.

The finely executed hand quilting includes outline and echo quilting inside the rose sprigs, and double line quilting throughout the body of the quilt. Each juncture of the sashing is also highlighted by a quilted floral medallion. Please click on the photo above to see the detail image. The backing is white cotton as is the separately applied 3/8 inch binding. An original textile masterpiece of unique design completely by hand and in excellent condition.

A fine addition to a collection this very early quilt can be used on a bed or hung on the wall as fine art. It has been professionally hand washed by Betsey and can be sent to you on approval for private viewing in your home. Web images cannot do justice to either the color or exquisite workmanship on this quilt.
