WOW! This quilt exemplifies Victorian Crazy quilting in all its excessive glory! A masterpiece of needlework in every array of silks, silk velvets, men’s cravats, women’s clothing, ribbons, silk chenille, metallic threads, seed beads, oil painting, and Kate Greenway pictures, this quilt was completed as a group project. There are many initials on the front and an extravagantly large monogram on the back, perhaps by the woman in charge of the final assembly? The quilt has been reverse tied, and the 4 inch silk velvet border has a pillowcase edge trimmed with burgundy roping. The level of skill necessary to complete such a range of embellishment is absolutely mind boggling, and the myriad of tiny treasures and symbols from the minds of this group of women will provide endless fascination to the careful viewer.
