The combination of stars and full length streaks of lightning makes this quilt so graphically wonderful, especially in its warm color palette of reds, browns, and greens. In unused condition, this quilt has a definite folky character. It appears to have been hand pieced by one person, and then entirely hand outline quilted by another. The 7 ½ inch blocks are set on point, with taupe and brown Lemoyne stars on a background of a white and red geometric shirting fabric. The star blocks are divided by three solid sashings in a streak of lightning formation. All three are 1 ½ inches wide, alternating in a red, vegetable dyed green, red order. The separately applied binding continues the folky flair of this quilt, ranging from 3/8 to 1 inch wide, formed from indigo cotton with an ecru floral print. The backing is muslin. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.
