Q8550 Rose of Sharon w/ Grapevine Border

This perfectly executed quilt appears to be in almost unused condition. The appliqué and reverse appliqué has been created using minuscule stitching and has been perfectly outline quilted. Each Rose of Sharon block is apx 14” square. The meandering grape vine measures 1/2” in width and is completely outline quilted. The grapes are also 1/2” in diameter. There is a 3/8" binding, applied by machine and finished by hand. All blocks and borders are joined by machine. The body of the quilt has 1” grid crosshatched stitches executed with beautifully symmetrical quilting. The 11” border is quilted on the diagonal, also executed beautifully. The intersection of each group of four blocks is embellished with a quilted pinwheel flower with a diameter of almost 4-1/2”. This quilt is truly magnificent and a perfect fit for a queen size bed, even with a 15” thick mattress! Not easy to find. The amount of creative work on this quilt is absolutely mind boggling. c.1928
