Q8606 Wool Log Cabin Barn Raising with Diagonal Bars Border
c.1880
72 x 73
Chester County, Pennsylvania
SOLD
A very sophisticated wool and wool challis quilt in muted earthtones so popular with today’s designers, with amazing graphics destined to be the focal point of any room! The subtle color palette is unusual for a Log Cabin of this circa date, and reflects the skilled artistic sense of the quilter. Each block is approximately 6 inches square, and has been foundation pieced by hand with ¾ inch wide logs. The quilt is wonderfully framed with a border averaging 6 ½ inches wide, and has been pieced with diagonally set logs ranging from 5/8 to 1 inch wide. All hand quilted with straight line quilting, and finished with a ½ inch deep green separately applied binding. The cotton backing is a circa 1870's wholecloth brown dotted print. In unused condition, this is one of Betsey’s favorite finds of 2008!
