A classic red and white palette is used for this skillfully made rendition of a classic Rob Peter to Pay Paul pattern. This c.1875 quilt makes a wonderful graphic statement with its bold layout and design. Entirely English pieced by hand it is comprised of solid white paired with solid Turkey red cotton. The blocks measure 4 5/8 x 4 3/4 with small 3/8" corner squares that form a sweet four patch when blocks were pieced together. The backing is linen and the 3/8 inch applied binding is a same date red and white calico.

Nicely executed hand quilting includes parallel diagonal lines in each block with the line direction alternating from block to block, to form an overall herringbone pattern on this marvelous quilt. This is a wonderful and vibrant red and white quilt in hardly used, crisp condition that would be marvelous as art on your wall or equally as charming on a bed.
