Q9003 Silk Bars & Blocks Quilt
52 x 58 (132.1 x 147.3 cm)
A stunning pre Civil War creation comprised entirely of luscious silks both front and back. Jewel tones shine among the darker, rich tones of brown, cream and blue in a wonderful array of solids and patterns. The hand pieced silk bars and blocks are in varying sizes within each column. High quality dress silks, ties and ribbons meld together forming a unique and graphic work of art.
The backing is a gorgeous silk plaid in brown, ecru and taupe – Betsey once owned a wedding dress from this era in the same fabric. The applied 3/8 inch binding is in this same silk and sewn entirely by hand. Hand quilting is hardly visible and is executed along the edges of each column in tiny, precise stitches. The batting is very thin and lightweight.
This is a very beautiful and visually graphic silk quilt that pleads to be hung on a wall and enjoyed as the artwork it is. It is all original, and in perfect condition as it was apparently created then hidden away like treasure. It remains as bright and perfect as the day it was completed. Betsey has never seen a silk quilt quite like this one. Please ask her about having this quilt sent to you on approval for private viewing.
