$2,800

In mint condition this pristine and finely executed Irish Chain quilt with double border was made by Katie Schrock of Belleville, PA. She quilted both her name and the date of July 27, 1932 in the salmon border of the quilt. It is unusual for an Amish quilter to sign and/or date a quilt in this way and it was possibly the date a family member was married and was a gift. Executed in cotton sateen using solid hues of black and salmon. Piecing was done by treadle sewing machine with the quilting done by hand.

Quilting is finely executed with black thread in tiny, even stitches using diagonal cross hatch on the Irish Chain pattern. Katie stitched her name and the date among Lemon Peel stitching in the salmon border. The black border quilting consists of a twining vine with tulips. The quilting is exceptional as would be expected of an Amish quilt of this date.

The backing is solid tan cotton sateen and the applied ½ inch salmon binding is treadle machine topstitched. This quilt can be shipped to you on approval for private viewing.
