B6 Homespun Blanket
19th century
74 x 87 inches
Maine
$550

Some of the most exciting fabrics for me are homespun. This is a mid 19th century homespun blanket made from wool. Selvedge to selvedge measures 37”. This was created from hand carded woolen threads and possibly hand carded linen threads. We know from looking at this piece that it has been hand dyed. Nothing was ever wasted, so when one shade was used up, they just went to the next available shade. I like character, and this blanket, which appears never to have been used, has fabulous character. Made to fit a double bed, but will also fit a twin or be used as a throw on any bed or couch. Organically washed by Betsey.
