What a delightful array of 1920’s calicoes on this lovely unused Depression era quilt! Quilts made in this era present us with color, vivacity and charm in contrast to quilts of the previous 60 years. This change of colors not only results from the use of chemical dyes but the emotional recovery from three wars.

The skilled needlewoman who executed this piece had a softly sophisticated aesthetic when it came to choice of colors and fabrics. Each 7 inch turkey track pieced block has a careful balance of pattern and color which gives a serene and pleasing feel overall. The choice of an off white almost ecru background adds to the harmony of this well thought out and well executed quilt.

Meticulously pieced this quilt is evenly quilted with outline and cross hatch stitches throughout. The backing is the same off white as used on the front with the back folding over to the front to form the ½ inch hand stitched binding. A lovely, soft and sophisticated quilt in unused condition. Professionally hand washed by Betsey.
