Q8709 Nine Patch Irish Chain
c.1928
83 x 84
Manheim, PA
$1,150

Such a wonderful medley of early 20th century pastel calicoes are displayed in this lovely unused Depression era quilt! Skillfully pieced and hand quilted with tiny stitches, this classic Nine Patch Irish Chain pattern exudes a sense of lightness.

This skilled needlewoman, whose name will be passed on to the buyer, had a softly sophisticated aesthetic when it came to choice of colors and fabrics. Each 4 ¾ inch nine patch block highlights one Springtime pastel calico. The pieced 9 patch blocks are arranged by color in a circular pattern against solid white blocks. The four inch white border is a lovely frame for the interior pattern. The pleasing result is a serene and quietly sophisticated quilt.

This meticulously pieced textile is quilted with exquisite tiny stitches. The white border contains 7/8” diamond cross hatch stitching with chevron and cross hatch stitching used in the interior blocks of the quilt. The backing is muslin and folds over to the front forming the ¼” hand stitched binding. A lovely unused quilt it still bears some faint pencil lines used for the quilting patterns. It has been professionally hand washed by Betsey and is ready for your home. Remember, all of our quilts can be sent on approval.
