Q8991 Indigo & White Feathered Star Quilt with Triple Border

c.1860
Beaver County, PA
94 x 95 (238.8 x 241.3 cm)
Was $4,900 Now $4,600

This stunning pre Civil War indigo and white Feathered Star has everything we look for in a fine blue and white quilt of this era. Meticulous hand piecing with exceptional hand quilting and comprised of a single deep indigo fabric - this one with tiny white dots. The triangles in the 'feathers' measure a tiny ¾ inch wide. The large stars measure 11 inches feathered tip to feathered tip with white joining block between. The triple border measures 4½ inches wide in total; each of the sawtooth borders measures a mere ¾ of an inch wide with the white border between at 3 inches wide.

Tiny and precise hand quilting includes ⅜ inch diagonal parallel line stitching in the feather star blocks and the three borders, with ½ inch diagonal cross hatch stitching in the white joining blocks. The backing is fine cotton with a separately applied ¼ inch binding in the same indigo print used for the stars. Beautiful.
