Can you imagine the hours, weeks, and months it must have taken to hand weave this wonderful early New England woolen blanket.
Two panels were created on a 36 inch loom and then whip stitched together to create a blanket for a double sized bed. Today this blanket could be used as a throw on top of a queen or king sized bed, depending on which way the blanket is folded, or as your primary blanket for a double sized bed. Very fine quality wool was used for both the warp and the weft of this blanket. Indigo blue wool was used as accent striping on the top and the bottom. The top edge and bottom edge were turned over and finished with a whip stitch. I do believe that one of the hallmarks of homespun wool is the fact the texture is uneven and has a microscopic uneven character to the weave.
The off white yarn is a natural color wool. In wonderful condition, this early New England very warm wool blanket can be sent to you for your approval.
