CONMG1 Variation on the "Prosperity" pattern Quilt
c.1845
68 x 82 inches
Massachusetts
$3,200
This stunning quilt is here on consignment as a fund raiser for the
Methodist Church in North Chatham, MA.
Created during the middle of the 19th century, undoubtedly from an
affluent family. This quilt is actually signed and dated with quilting
stitches. There are a few ways we know this. The first is that these
fabrics were beyond the means of most. The second is that this quilt
could be saved, not used, and passed down in the family. All information
will be given upon the sale.
The fabrics used here are an overdyed Green Calico, a matter dyed early
calico, another matter dyed red calico for the binding. All of this on
natural color Linen..both front and back. Even though I cannot test for
this..I believe that the thread used was possibly linen.
There is a meandering Vine with a Folky Tulip also created from the same
fabrics as the blocks. The 30 blocks each measure 10-3/4". The border
measures 6-1/2", also containing the 1/4" separately applied binding.
The diagonal quilting is 3/8" apart and is so dense that the quilt
almost looks stuffed.
This magnificent quilt is now hand washed with organic products and
ready to be sent, for your approval, with free shipping.
