CONSS7 Wool Crepe Double Four Corner Block Amish Bars Quilt

A double four corner Amish Bars quilt is another very sought after collector's quilt. This Amish woman must have had an outgoing personality...as this quilt is almost folksy. The reason I am saying this is because of her vibrant color choices. A very unusual Bars quilt...yes, exceedingly rare and what a fabulous piece of textile art!

The outer corner blocks measure 9-1/2", the outer gray border is 9-1/2" wide and 51" in length. The separately applied binding is 1" in width. Inner green corner squares measure 6-3/4" wide. The burgundy/red Bars joining the inner corner blocks measure 6-3/4" in width while all remaining bars are 5-1/2" wide.

As with all Amish quilts the piecing is by hand. Quilting, as usual, is exquisite. However, even the quilting designs are unusual for an Amish quilt. The outer borders are quilted in an open heart design with a floral center. These are quilted in sideways rows all around the quilt. The Bars are quilted in crosshatch pattern rows 1" apart. The burgundy/red inner border is quilted in a double row meandering across each border and filled in with whimsical flowers. Patterns and designs unusual for a relatively early Amish quilt. I do see a few "thread Knots" on the front of the quilt...also unusual.
