What a perfectly exquisite piece of textile art with clean, crisp graphics executed in a beautiful palette. This elegant Bethlehem Star showcases radiating 1 3/4 inch diamonds of Lancaster blue, chrome yellow, overdyed green, and red calicoes on a white ground. The red and white calico appears pink due to the miniature scale of the pattern. A double sawtooth border comprised of triangles in the red and white calico on off white frames the large star beautifully and adds a lovely detail to this finely executed quilt. It is interesting to note that the maker chose to hand applique the sawtooth border triangles to the 8 inch wide off white border rather than the more common method of stitching two 1 inch wide pieced triangular strips to either side of a 6 inch wide off white strip. The applique stitches are so finely done that we didn't notice this detail until closer examination - very nice indeed.

Very fine, precise hand quilting consists of double parallel line quilting in the star, 7/8 inch diagonal cross hatching in the white ground, with double line herringbone and echo outline in the double sawtooth border. Exquisite hand work. The white backing folds to the front to form the tiny 1/8 inch hand stitched binding.

This amazing quilt would be perfect for a bed or as a stunning piece of wall art in your classic or contemporary home. In excellent, crisp condition it has been professionally hand washed by Betsey and can be shipped to you on approval for private viewing. Ask Betsey for more details.
