Bassinette quilt. This miniature nine patch bassinet quilt was created in New England, completely by hand. The diminutive nine patch squares measure approx 2-1/8 inch. They are joined with 2-1/2 inch block where the calico is now a grey/black but was originally green. This was originally an 1870s dye in which some of the colors have oxidized. The border measure 5-1/2 inches with a 3/8 inch hand done binding. The borders are quilted in a cross hatch herringbone grid with the rows of quilting 5/8 inches apart. The balance of the quilt is quilted with a combination of cross hatching and design quilting. There has been some minor restoration done on the quilt. Professionally hand washed by Betsey. It is comprised of very subdued colors.
