What a fabulous quilt! In mint condition, with absolutely stunning graphics, this Straight Furrows quilt has been foundation pieced by hand using wool challis fabrics in the much sought after colors of taupe and grape. The black challis wools in this quilt are most likely from shawls. The 10½ inch border has been formed by diagonally piecing 1 inch wide logs set in to form chevrons. The binding is ½ inch red plaid challis, and the backing is a primarily brown plaid with red and taupe accents. This quilt was reverse tied at the intersection of each block without batting, as was the norm for most foundation pieced wool quilts of this time. A truly beautiful quilt with the ability to transcend all decors, from an antique colonial to a modern glass home!
