QT308 Monkey Wrench or Hole in the Barn Door Quilt Top
c.1885
75 x 75 inches
Pennsylvania
$95
At one time, when our country was more rural, we would see more of this
pattern. The colors are very typical of the 1880's. There is one block
that needs the white replaced and there are a few stains, which is why
the low price.
Each block measures 9-1/2" square with 2-1/2" sashing both horizontal and
vertical. The piecing is all executed by hand, while the sashing is
machine done. The fabrics used here date back as far as 1850 with some
really unusual prints. There are also very few repeats.
The colors range from burgandy to white calicoes. The sashing is a pale
mustard/gold with a calico print in black and off white.
