QT483 Four Patch English Pieced Quilt Top
c.1850, some fabrics much much earlier
40 x 52 inches (small!)
Massachusetts
$375 (as is: 7 squares need replacing)
People naturally have favorites. Mine are early fabrics and a myriad of
designs all in miniature! A large collection of fabrics in 1-3/8
to 1-1/2 inch squares executed with English hand piecing. This
early, very time consuming piecing method results in pieces tightly held
together. During this time period almost all quilts were hand quilted.
Due to the piecing method this top may be tied to finish or used to
create wonderful pillows.
We have here a somewhat muted but still cheerful collection of browns
and matter dyed browns, with touches of blacks, greens, grays, blues and
even smaller touches of yellows and purples. We even have early glazed
chintz squares.
This quilt top is a little funky and appears to have been worked on by
more than one person. There are a few tiny squares that should be
replaced...I will provide the fabrics
