BTGCOLLECTION13 Crewel Needlework

Dated and signed 1900
24 x 25 inches

During the 18th century in England and America many women embellished their bed hangings and bed spreads with woolen crewel embroidery. This small piece is embellished with exact replicas of that intricate hand work. This wonderfully perfect wall hanging is amazingly signed and dated. The construction is the center medallion format and encompasses only symbolism from that era. It was originally made as a pillow cover but never used. I have closed the open seam and put two sleeves on the back to be used for hanging purposes. I have enjoyed it hanging in my home for almost ten years. Now this piece of art is ready for a new home. It is dated 1900 and signed C.S. Stadler. This diminutive piece of textile art originated in Pennsylvania, possibly in the Chester County area. It is an amazing piece of art for your wall.
